I have had three snow days this week. Stir crazy? YES! I think I'm ready to go to the looney bin! I've been camped out on the sofa bored out of my mind. I have watched several episodes of Merlin on Hulu. Anybody else watch Merlin? I love it!
Anyway, I feel like I need to apologize. I haven't been posting much lately. I have lost my vintage vibe! How can this happen?!?!? I have loved mid-century stuff since I was in middle school - probably close to 18 years. Somehow, I'm just not feeling it right now. Does this ever happen to you? I'm sure that it will come back eventually. I sure hope it does, because somehow the new multi-story house that I've been dreaming of lately, with full basement, including a rec-room, cherry kitchen cabinets and granite countertops, just isn't going to happen. Although the shiny new Buick in my dream I certainly wouldn't mind. Especially since mine has been in the shop for a few days. Sigh, I miss my car.
While lounging around on the sofa with my laptop in front of me the past couple of days, I ran across this great video from the 1939 World's Fair. It is so much fun to see what they were predicting what the US would be like in 1960. Makes you wonder how our country would have developed differently if WWII hadn't occured. Anyway, enjoy these two videos, which show the entire film.
Here's a clip from the TV show Merlin that I'm loving so much (it's a BBC show that is airing on SyFy - but you can watch the first two seasons on Hulu). Have a great Thrusday! Here's hoping that I get to go back to work tomorrow. Contrary to popular belief, this teacher does not like snow days!

I've gone through many a design phase when I was younger. Luckily I was always too poor to invest much in any of them, so when I moved on to something new, it was OK to pack, give or throw the rest away.
ReplyDeleteNow, this house is built in the 50's and nothing else would look good in here. It's a classic Ranch through and through, so that takes away any other choices.
I'd wait and see... This may be a phase for you too. Don't toss anything out yet, or give us a chance to have it ha ha ha. You know WE'D love your MCM stuff. maybe that will give you incentive to keep it: keep it out of our greedy hands muahahahahaaaa.......
Three Snow Days!? Wow. We had late start 'cause of snow and ice today. Since I became a principal, snow days have lost their 'allure'; I have to go in anyway. I sort of liked a snow day now and then - not anymore!
ReplyDeleteYou know, I live in a 1948 built home and I think what I've done is created a 'Happy Mix' - I love the vintage and retro but also have new things. It makes going to the flea market or antique store lots of fun (great flea last week here) but also makes a trip to Pottery Barn a good time. Like you, there's no way a new house is gonna happen for me. I think I've found the best of all worlds. I have friends in incredible new homes. Can't afford it, here. So, I go for the blend! Don't worry, you'll get the vibe back. Another idea - find a new thing to collect and be on the look out for. My new thing might be vintage thermoses (thermi? thermosee?)
