New Background

I've done a little customizing to the blog's background image to make it more personalized to Cul-de-sac Shack instead of the generic background that Blogspot supplied with the template.  I'd like some feedback from you on it.  Do you like it?  Is it too busy for a background image, distracting from the rest of the blog?  Please let me know, I value your input.  I can always change it back to the way that it was.  What is the new background image?  It's a photo I took of the sandstone rock on the bottom of the front of the Shack!  Thanks for your thoughts!

  1. Very warm. I like it and no, I don't think it's too busy at all. Is it difficult to add your own graphics? I always use hotbligityblog.com because I don't know how to add my own. Was there a website you used to figure it out or are you just computer savvy? Looks great.

  2. I don't know if I'm computer savvy or not, but here is how I did it. (Make sure you save a copy of the HTML file on your computer before making changes, or you might have to start over with a whole new layout.)

    Let's see...I went to Layout, Edit HTML, and found the following in the code: background:#483521 url("http://www2.blogblog.com/scribe/bg.gif") repeat;

    The http:// part was the file for the background image, so I went to my private blog, uploaded the image to a new post, then after posting, clicked on the picture to bring it up full-size. This allowed me to copy the image url that Blogspot gave the photo. I simply deleted the default image url from the background code and inserted the image url for the background that I wanted to use.

    After previewing the changes I had made to make sure that this successfully changed the background image, I clicked the "Save" button and I was done.

    Clear as mud, no?

  4. Looks great!

    What I'd like to know is, how can we use the "wasted space" outside the main box where we put our pics and text. The idea of only being able to use half the width of a blog page (and not the area, for example, where your background is) is well, a waste of space when we could post more stuff or make the main "box" area larger...

    I never understood that about blogger *scratches head* =)

  5. I agree, the width thing is annoying. That's one thing that I have no idea how to fix...without switching to one of those widescreen formats...but I'll keep my eyes open for a way to change it.

  6. I like how it looks, not busy at all. And I love that it's a part of your home, that's pretty cool!

  7. I love it but I'd be lost without room for all the extra stuff. I could never in a million years have figured out how to do the background and I'm highly impressed! Really personalizes your blog, Michael. Good job!
