I Think I Need Rehab...

Saturday I went to the estate sale of a lady that I have known for years, a member of my church, as well as a lady that my grandparents have known since the 1950s.  My grandparents knew her husband probably as far back as the late 1920s or early 1930s.  (Grandma turns 90 this summer...)

Anyway, there were some incredible mid century finds at the auction, some not so great finds, and some of that more modern stuff that I was happy wasn't coming home with me.

So, here's a run down of my finds:

2 sets of lamps.  The first set was made by Colonial Premier, in a gorgeous green ceramic with brass finish.  They still have their original shades and small glass inner shades.  The set was in excellent condition.  After doing a little research, I discovered that Colonial Premier was a high-end lighting manufacturer from Chicago which was in business during the first half of the 20th century.  A little more than I normally spend, but I know exactly where to put them, $20.

The second set is this fun ceramic and brass set.  The brown ceramic part is flecked with gold, and the ceramic is fluted.  There is no manufacturer identification on this set, and one of the shades is bad.  It was the same price as the above set.  Not sure that this was as good a deal as the first set, but still very attractive.

A great little black iron and blond wood end table.  I think that I'm going to use it as a small coffee table in the den conversion.  $10.

I love this amazing Elgin starburst/sunburst clock.  I need to clean up the battery connections.  They are badly corroded...not sure if I can clean them up or I might need to replace the workings.  $13. (I was shocked to find that someone has this exact same clock on ebay right now for $130!)

I forgot to share a lamp! I picked up this floor / pole lamp with three adjustable lamps for $2.

Revolving kitchen utensil holder with set of vintage Flint Stainless utensils - $1.

Vintage Sunbeam Mixmaster - complete with two Glasbake milk glass bowls,  $7.  Now I have 2 of them...

Great mustard color retro Heager 4002 planter.  $5.

I also got these great Made in France (copyright 1967) bathroom swag lights...not sure why they were taken out of the house, as there is now no light in that bathroom...and the house is getting ready to be listed with an agent.

As you can see, I made up for the fact that I won't be retro shopping until at least mid-July.  I now know that I need rehab...sigh.

  5. Wow! What a great haul, I especially like the clock! And I can't believe you found a second Mixmaster, I've looked for one for months and haven't seen anything except one bowl.

  6. Perry, the last auction I went to a couple of weeks ago had an avocado green Mixmaster complete with both of it's original bowls...it sold for $4. I know most people probably prefer white, but they are popping up more and more around here. I've purchased two of the three I've come across at auction this past year.

Mick, the floor lamp...well, I'm not sure about it. I already have an amazing floor lamp with adjustable lights that I'm going to use in the den. I don't think I've ever blogged about it. I'll share it sometime.

  9. LOL Mick...you really like that lamp that much?

I passed on it until the auctioneer came down to $2 on it - the way the lighting usually works at the auctions that I attend is they put all the lamps together and sell choice out of them. First they sold the lamp pairs, which is how I got the green and the brown sets, I was the first winning bidder at $20 per set, and I could take as many sets as I wanted for that price. There were 4 sets, and I took the best 2, in my opinion. Then they auction choice again, repeating until they are out or nobody else will bid. Then, when things get fairly picked over, they'll say something like "$5 for choice remaining" and that's how I got those funky swag lights. Finally nobody would take anything else at $5 so they dropped the price to $2 for choice of what was left, and since nobody wanted that pole lamp, I took it. Great way to get a bargain!

  10. Oh yeah you have lampalia! An incontrolable urge to buy vintage lamps. No cure for it! Sorry!

And no there are no support group for that; I've been looking for a Pyrex one...It doesn't exist either! lol

You found the best lamps! lampalia might be catchy!

  11. What great finds! You scored on the clock, big time! I have one similar to it in black and gold. My house is all shabby chic but I have one room devoted to my mid-century fetish. Shhhh, it's a secret....

  12. I'm thinking a green Mixmaster would be fine with me, I snagged a green hand mixer from the estate sale two weeks ago that we ran, maybe I can start a collection. (Those words make my spine hurt, I have NO space!)
