No Luck...

Yesterday I ran over to Pittsburg (yes, that spelling is correct - no "h" on the end) to try and get that black panther TV lamp that I shared a week or two ago.  Unfortunately, it already sold.  I did look at the black poodle tray, and they had it marked at $11.  I walked around the store to see what other TV lamps they had, and when I made it back to the booth with all the mid-century stuff, I found that someone had picked up the poodle tray.  I hope whoever got it gives it a good home!  So sorry that the lamp had sold Mick!  I promise to keep my eye out for another one!

I did find a couple of things for myself.  They have a new dealer at that place and so I checked that booth over pretty well.  This dealer obviously doesn't know how to price things yet (even the people that run the store made that comment) as I was able to get these two pieces of Pyrex for $2 for the pair.  My favorite piece is the black 1 1/2 quart casserole dish with the white snowflakes.  The brown bowl with the white flowers is nice as well.

I also found this 1954 copy of Ladies' Home Journal Book of Interior Decoration.  It is in nice shape, with a strong binding.  Most of the pictures are in black and white, but there are a few in color that I'll need to share sometime.  I found this book at that booth with all the mid-century stuff that had the black panther lamp.  I thought it was a bargain for only $5.

Have a great Sunday!

  1. Hi Michael--uh oh, you broke one of thrifting's cardinal rules: if you see something you like, buy it, cuz it will, WITHOUT A DOUBT, be gone when you go back for it! The Pyrex was priced a bit low, true, but I'm seeing Pyrex in general going for less than it was a year ago, which is good for buyers but of course not so good for sellers. You really got a good deal on the casserole, though, even without a lid--it's called Snowflake and the one you have is referred to as Charcoal, came out 1957. Charcoal is the rarest "color". The other bowl is Woodland and it came out in 1978. You may already know about a fantastic reference website called Pyrex Love but if not, you should bookmark it.

  2. Thanks for the reference on Pyrex Christine! I'll go check it out. I'm excited that my snowflake Pyrex piece is a rare color! That makes it more exciting. I would have passed on the Woodland bowl if it hadn't been included with the snowflake casserole. As a note on the Panther lamp, I didn't what it for myself - I was going to get it for Mick, as he was looking for one and I offered to pick it up if it was still there. No such luck.

  3. Whoa! I guess I wasn't paying attention--getting BOTH of those Pyrex pieces for $2 is an incredible deal! And that was a very nice gesture on your part re the lamp.

  4. We have a Pittsburg with no "h" in Kentucky too, just north of London in the southeastern part of the state. It has a lot of little flea markets along the highway, and who knows, maybe you could find that panther lamp!

  7. You totally scored on that Pyrex! It took me a while to find a Charcoal Snowflake Pyrex open baker and it was more than a buck!!!lol

The Open Baker is the rarest of those casseroles, all the rest they made divided. Ok I admit it I'm a Pyrex nut
